Bourtzi

Bourtzi is a overgrown hill on a small peninsula that separates the port of Skiathos in two and where there used to be a Venetian castle. Today nothing survives, except some traces of the walls.

The house of Papadiamantis

Alexandros Papadiamantis (Skiathos, March 4, 1851 – January 3, 1911) is one of the most important Greek writers. He mainly wrote short stories, which hold a prominent place in modern Greek literature. His house is located in a small square, just a few meters from the port. It was built in 1860 by his father, priest of the island, Adamantio Papadiamantis. This important writer grew up and died in this House. It is just a simple, unassuming and plain Island House that today has been transformed into a museum and is located on Papadiamantis Street, in the town of Skiathos.

The Castle

The castle was founded in the 14th century, around 1360. Because of piracy, people of Skiathos abandoned the Byzantine Polichni, which was located in the town of Skiathos and built the medieval settlement of Kastro, on the northern tip of the island. The fact that the fortress was inaccessible by the sea and you could go in only with the mobile wooden bridge ensured to the residents a kind of protection.

Beach of Lalaria

It is a beach widely known for its shingles and that’s why many tourists visit it in summer time. You can go there by small boats that are anchored in the old port of the island. It has been voted as the second most beautiful beach of the island after Koukounaries. This beach is also known for the rock that has an opening and many swimmers do dives from there. Its water is really crystal clear.

The Holy Monastery of Evagelismos of Theotokos Skiathou

The Holy Monastery of Annunciation of the Virgin Mary of Skiathos or Evangelistria monastery was founded in 1794. It is located outside the town of Skiathos and it is a male monastery. At this monastery, the first Greek flag with the white cross on a blue background monastery was designed and blessed.
